Hamburb duo Frederic Berger and Patrick Buck have swiftly made a name for themselves amongst Techno heavyweights from around the globe. Together they are known as Kaiserdisco who have been breaking Beatport Charts and headlining every festival imaginable. Kaiserdisco have trademarked their own signature sound i.e. minimal infused techno which accelerated their career to great heights and led to the formation of their own label ‘KD Music’. With heaps of releases on labels such as Drumcode, 100% Pure, Global Underground, Strictly Rhythm and My Best Friend (who released their debut artist album). Check out their interview as they talk about David Baguetta, Steve Shitoki and some real music.
Q1. Hi Frederic and Patrick! Thank you for taking out the time for us, which part of the world are you currently in?
(Frederic) I am still in our hometown Hamburg while Patrick is enjoying his yearly holidays in Palma De Mallorca (Spain)
Q2. Sonar Festival just got over and we caught you live while we were there. How was your experience this year?
Beside the apartment problems in the beginning (the apartment we booked got canceled 12 hours before), we had an amazing time! Went to so many great parties in so many different locations, played as well on 2 amazing parties like for Tronic Music on the Beach with more than 3000 people… it was really fun this year.
Q3. You guys have been nailing every releases on KD Music and your new label KD Raw. What is your future plan with the two labels?
Thank you for the kind words, we are just releasing the music we like the most and are pretty happy with the result. The plan for the future is pretty simple – “keep on grooving, keep on moving”
Q4. KD Raw is your new baby. It has been releasing some top notch material in terms of Hard Techno. Where do you hope to take KD Raw Next?
As long the label is growing we are happy. We don´t stress us in signing new material to have a monthly output. Its possible that we take a break from time to time as we only want to release the music we really would love to have and not just something in between to keep the fire burning.
Q5. Your last release ‘Electric’ has been doing wonders on the floors. When can your fans expect the next Kaiserdisco release?
In the last few months, we worked on a collaboration EP with Cesar Martinez which is a great talented guy from Spain. He already released a couple of tracks on our label KD Music and we wanted to push him a little bit, he has a great groove feeling!
The first track “GET UP” is just released of course on KD Music and the other 2 Tracks will be out in September on Popof´s label Form Music.
Q6. You guys played at EVC 2014 in India last year. How was your experience and what were your expectations?
Unfortunately only Patrick played at EVC but he had a really great time in India! I had the pleasure to play a few gigs in 2012 I think and it was really big fun!
Q7. KD Music has been supporting our homegrown Arjun Vagale for a while now. Any tips for aspiring producers on how they can release music on your labels?
You only need to send your demos to us, same way every other artist is doing it , checking the website , looking for the right email, writing a small letter to introduce you and adding a secret soundcloud link to listen to the demos… that’s we way Arjun’s did as well. We try to listen to everything and if something interesting pops up we will get back to you as fast as possible.
Q8. How does your calendar look like? Which party are you looking forward to most this year?
At the moment, we are looking forward to play our first time in Dubai, but we are both a little bit afraid of the heat 😉
Q9. I read somewhere that your studio setup is a mix of both Digital and Analog. What is your current setup like? (Can we have a picture if possible?)
90% we are working Digital at the moment but we have a lot of Synthesizers and from time to time we are using them.
Q10. One synthesizer you wish you owned?
Q11. According to you, which five artists are on top of their game?
Still a big fan of Carl Cox, Sven Väth, Monika Kruse, Laurent Garnier and Adam Beyer.. legends…
Q12. Which genre to you enjoy besides techno?
Actually we are listening to everything except EDM, Folk and Heavy Metal… David Baguetta, Steve Shitoki and the rest of the toilet paper industry doing nothing else as combining cheesy kindergarten folk with heavy metal noises… and the kids love shit! 😉
