Seth Troxler hosts Acid Future at London’s Tobacco Dock on August 8, a tribute to the UK’s acid house history featuring artists from around the world who he thinks embody the acid house spirit in 2015.
Explaining the concept of the night, Troxler reckons the legacy of acid house, a youth movement that was big enough to bring club culture into the mainstream of British society, has prevented EDM from truly catching on in the UK.
“Recently I’ve been quite outspoken about my misgivings on the rise of EDM and the culture that surrounds it, but I’ve also noticed that the UK, and specifically London, possibly my favourite city in the world, doesn’t have much of an EDM scene at all,” he says. “This got me thinking as to why this might be and the simple answer is… acid house.”
Troxler and a host of as-yet-unannounced DJs will take over East London’s Tobacco Dock, a 5,000-capacity venue over three floors, on August 8. Pre-sale tickets will be available from April 27 with the general sale starting on April 30. More information on the line-up will be announced in the coming weeks.
